Your donation today will honor the sacrifices made by our Veterans and help launch the new Service Dog Training Program for First Responders!
When Navy veteran, Travis Johanson, returned from combat 8 years ago, he was no longer the same person. He could no longer enjoy the activities he used to like. He felt separated from his family and was afraid to leave the home. Like many veterans returning from battle he suffers with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). After joining the 4 Paws 2 Freedom Service Dog Training Program with his husky/shepherd mix, “Bear” he is seeing life in a much better light.
Over a hundred veterans applied last year to take part in the Service Dog Training Program with 4 Paws 2 Freedom. Every year, there are more people in need. Post Traumatic Stress Disorder is not going away. We need your help today!
“In the short time I have been in the program, I have been able to overcome many anxieties and self-imposed obstacles of being in public and spending the night away from home. Recently I spent the night in a hotel with Bear, and for the first time in 8 years I was able to relax in the hotel room and get a good nights sleep. When I woke up during the night, each time Bear was sleeping on the floor by my side. That calmed me and I was able to fall back asleep.
For the first time in the last 8 years I actually don't fight going to the grocery store and other crowded places knowing Bear lowers my anxiety and has my back. I actually want to go to places that traditionally I avoided at all costs just to see how Bear and I react. So far, it has always been a positive outcome as compared with the times that I venture out without him. It tells me that I need to always have him with me.”
